66 MPH on Majorca on the descent from Puig Major to Soller, tucked in behind a motorbike with apillion on the back ! they didn't know I was there until they had to slow for a bend and I zipped past them on the inside !!

Exhilarating !

Onn a motorbike - A 38 VERY early one summer sunday morning - Kawasaki ZZr 1100 with mods - 163 MPH

Warp speed ! Totally amazing and what an adrenalin rush - then the thought entered my head - 'what happens if I have a blow out at this speed ?'
I quickly scrubbed a bit off to more lawful figures ! ;)

I beat 45mph almost every day coming down the Elland bypass. For a big lad on a fairly steep dual carriageway it's not difficult.

Fastest I've managed with a tailwind is 55mph, still not quite fast enough to trigger the speed cameras
though

Once you get the wrong side of 50+ it gets harder and harder to increase the speed. You basically have to tuck everything tight to the frame, get as low as possible, and try not to wonder what would happen if you fall off.

49.8 down a hill very close to Pennan in Scotland. A VERY steep hill!

It says 14% at the top but I think its a lot steeper. Locally I have the Lanark and Law braes which are 14% and its a lot steeper than them. I reckon the road into Gardenstown would be an even better - problem is you have cycle back out again.

How about: Gardenstown, up the hill then down into Crovie and back along the coast path to Gardenstown on a mountainbike. 10 lap race???

Not hit the 50 yet, many places I reckon I could easily do it but I just don't trust having a car or something decide to try and overtake me or such - specially as at these speeds looking behind you is sketchy both for body movement and looking at the road surface in front.

Added to that, my top speed has been recorded whilst I was on the brakes.

I have a Garmin 705 and when I was in Cyprus recently, it recorded (and I don't know if I believe it - but then again, I don't know how it can be inaccurate) 78.9 MILES per hour coming down from Trachypedoulou in the Troodos mountains. Now I know I was going fast but THAT fast? Is it possible?

Unless you have an accurately set up wheel speed sensor, then no - that was a GPS jitter.

49.4 mph on a steep "down and up" narrow lane that cuts between Whitewell and Slaidburn in Bowland. My buddy got 49.8 on the same hill.

125 mph on my CX650 on the M11. Things happen very fast at that kind of speed, not to mention the fuel consumption!

Aerodynamic mean anything above 50mph on an upwrong is unlikely, the figure is about 70mph on a high bb bent.

Naah, my fastest recorded is 83 km/h down Holme Moss. I was overtaken by someone with taller gears than I had, my legs were a blur.

Other places I have topped 50 are Garrowby Hill and Sutton Bank (the hair pin makes it more interesting).

I don't do it now (no longer have a computer).

Someone on C+ years ago claimed 70mph on mainland Europe somewhere, no reason to disbelieve it.

I've been measured at 48mph going down the A9 toward Inverness.

And then there was the time that the Things went down Reigate Hill at 45mph. They were overtaken by a Royal Mail artic. Guess who was overtaking the artic?

I do think I've been faster, quite a bit faster on the long straight road that goes north and down from Andorra.
