what's the lube on new chains?

Just fitted a new KMC chain and the lube on it seems very good, doesn't come off all over the place, it's clear and seems like good stuff.

Anyone know if there is something similar on the market?

I've tried a numbver of lubes, finish line dry, wet, some green stuff and despite cleaning off the excess I still tend to end up with black-ish chain and sproeckets which doesn't look great.

I think most chains have a dry wax lube, something like finish line wax is the closest you'll get. The lube is a 'hot' application wax so a little cleaner then cold applied waxes you'll buy off the shelf.

As what Gras said, it's a dry wax lube. Last's for a good few hundred dry miles from new.

Mine started squeaking on the smrbth. I reckon it's done less than 300 miles.

As per User482, I too find that factory lube don't perform much longer than 200-250 miles
