I realised this morning that I have a favourite part of my commute - a quick downhill into a left turn. If I get slowed down by vehicles here it takes the fun out of the rest of the journey. And after 18 months, in the last week that I'll be doing this journey, they're finally filling in the potholes. 8-)

Riding home along an empty Fen road, on a starlit night with a full moon. No need for lights and I can Howl as much as i like!

Here for rides.
Northbound A281 between the Lower Beeding turn and Horsham, flat out, on a dry cold night.
-and-
the fleeting look of relief on the lovely Helen's face when she sees me putting the bike on the stand through the dining room window and knows I've lived to ride another day.

Emergine from Salcey Forest on the Quinton Road. Nice views to the East towards Yardley Chase, and a nice downhill with a challenging gravel strewn right turn at the bottom just a minute or two ahead to look forward to.

the last 2miles home after a manic dash across the sliproad of the m23/a23 ( have to filter across as the supplied bike lane is a joke!! its a up down up then a long windy down and at 7:10 ish when i hit its normally quiet and i can power though hit 9mph the other day loveit plus its wide enough if cars do come they can overtake with ease 9 though they do have a surprise in trying to catch me as it limited to 30/40 in places :-)

I have written to Surrey CC about this without reply, and the northbound joining the A23 (that is still being treated as the M23 by the driver on it) There has been planning permission in place to make it safe since the early 2000's but no cash to do it. The plan would have made it safe going both directions.

I never got a reply to my email about the ped crossing they put in 18 months ago creating yet another dangerous pinch point. I had 40ft lorry anchoring on behind me going northbound, he must of been 40+ before he realised not enough room for me and him through the ped pinch.

Going southbound I used to go along the cycle path waiting for a gap in traffic, but with the increased amount of traffic coming down that road by Starbucks in the morning means when the lights are red at Hooley they all come out meaning no breaks, so I go along the M23 - A23 broken lines and pray, I pretty much know when I have made it to the M23 A23 written on the road cars can pass either side, I have had quite a bit of aggro from drivers though..

im a little tea pot
The slight downhills depending on the route where i can hold 30 + mph for a while while pedaling manicly!! one is after a 1 mile descent (about 4% average so not much) so i hit it about 35mph and travel for 1 mile or so flat out, the other one has a short sharp descent where i pick up some speed and then hammer it for 1.5 miles! both have small rises in the middle so makes it fun and ive put them as strava segments!

http://app.strava.com/segments/2514700 - Im KOM at the moment
http://app.strava.com/segments/2370487 - currently 3rd but working on it!

Horse Guards Road in the mornings, great, iconic location with St James Pk to the left (Buck House in the distance) and Horse Guards Parade on the right with the London Eye peeking overhead. You can also get up to a really good speed. :bicycle:

agree i have email multiple times as well find that riding strong in primary up to the ped crossing helps thou you sometimes get cars beeping you ! as to the cycling i head south as my homeward journey so it 7:10-20 pm so its a bit queiter from starbucks side so i stick to the right hand side but outside of the cyclelane and do as you do find a gap and pedal for the middle 9 i use the resin line where the fixed a crack few months ago as a goal and then stick to the inside left of the a23 bit always a hairy moment at lest once a week ! comening the other way in the amis jammed full of cars so its a case of joining it as normal and i filter down the middle right depending on the cars/lorries and then keep right as i over take until i take primary at the ped crossing and then strong 2nd on the left.
