Ouch:sad:

A lot less than that.

Though I decided my headset has bitten the dust this morning (despite 2 recent strip-downs and regreases) and feeling a bit flush after a few better than expected eBay sales I've treated my bike to a new Chris King one at £68:ohmy:

I had to patch a tube last week. So I dunno, 50p or summat?

Hrmm...I got a puncture and after fixed it the old patches started coming off the inner, causing new puctures. The spare had been sat in the tool kit for so long friction had worn a big hole it in....the first and only time I've had to bail out - 2 new inners, the cost of a taxi ride home + a couple of pints in the pub while I waited. Guess that came to about 25 quid.

Rode over a plastic bag that tore the rear dr off and dragged it though the spokes. £20 for a new DR and cable, £30 for straightening the wheel. Now I am very wary of road debris

I've actually done the maths. I collected the numbers over a number of years. Averaged over the year (wear is much more rapid in winter of course) I spend 3.23 pence per mile. Fourteen mile round trip - 45.22 pence.

Actual accident damage? Years ago I was knocked off. The bike was a right-off (Dawes Sterling, about two hundred quid in those days.). So was the car (Ford Mondeo, probably several thousand pounds). Ha.

Well, there was the time I was collected on the bonnet of a car at a junction. I ended up out of pocket by about £300 after I'd replaced my Moulton AM on insurance (it was worth around £1000 but insured for £800 = the maximum that insurer would do) and some torn and bloody kit. I think the car was a write-off, though - but I didn't have to pay for that.

eh nice one. i can use that little gem at work when comparing the cost of commuting by bike rather than car.

that actually doesn't sound too bad if wheels are included! But a nasty unplanned bill.

When a Shimano chain failed and rammed the rear XT dérailleur into my spokes, that was the last time I used a Shimano chain.
