Just wondering if I have enough lights after a few close calls this morning. Currently running one big light onto the front and four frogs eye lights on front some flashing others not. Two lights on the back one large light and a single frogs eye flashing red. Also wearing hi-viz. What's everyone else got?

FWIW I wear pretty dark clothes and have one flashing 25lm light on the seatpost with a fixed 80lm job on the bars. Have got into the habit of using lights when there's the slightest bit of murk about. If it's actually dark and I need to see where I'm going I use additional lights, which won't be mentioned here for fear of upsetting some..

Tbh from the setup you list I don't think your lights are the problem; judging by your entries in the commuting thread I suspect the issue stems from an excess of muppets in your vicinity

At least 2 rearward flashing on the frame and one attached to rear of a very bright and reflective jacket.
Front is normally 1 x bright light on constant and 1 x flashing one.
And if possible reflective side wall tyres

Retired now, but I used to have two front and two rear. The second ones being backups in case of battery fades.

Also used reflective slap bands on ankles and wrists. These are probably more effective than rear lights with dark backgrounds.

At one time I had a pair of flashing rear lights. One red and one blue! I know it was not the letter of the law, but a couple of times, drivers stopped me to ask where I bought the blue one from.

Agree re reflective bands and such things

I had some knuckle dragger in a van snarl at me to get a proper light the other evening when using my small Moon one on flash after he decided not to give way at a pinch point when I had priority. Irony was he had only side lights and fog lights, despite it being a clear night.

One of the benefits of being a large chap who dresses like he slept in a hedge is that in such scenarios I can say things like, "if you'd worked harder at school you wouldn't have to drive such a shite van for a living" without fear of the consequences.

It's that time of year for the lighting lottery again - when dipped headlights are appropriate but instead people choose from an eclectic selection of no lights / side lights / fog lights / main beam.. with the bonus balls of woefully boss-eyed alignment or just ridiculously bright output of otherwise correct lights..

Technology seems to be making progress. My daughter's motobility car has automatic lights and wipers. Wont be long before us humans won't be allowed anywhere near a steering wheel.

I had two front lights on last winter - one dark night on an unlit lane, a driver ignored the passing spaces and surged towards me so I waggled my bars to move the lights about & took primary because there's no room in the hedge.

This is an unlit lane and my lights are bright, although dipped to avoid dazzling oncomers.

Thankfully, he stopped & I was preparing a broadside when he said "I'm very sorry - I thought you were a house!"

Since then I have one steady, one flashing.

No amount of lighting compensates for reckless driving.
