My wife and I have places on the Prudential 100. She will be riding her Spesh Tricross Disc elite currently shod with 32mm tyres on the standard wheels.

I've tried suggesting she buy a road bike, but she was wise to that one.... immediately seeing through the ploy whereby I too got an N+1!

So, I could simply put on some 28mm rubber which would be a tad better, but can't (apparently) go lower on the current rims.

Any suggestions as to disc brake ready reasonably lightweight, sensibly priced rims?

I think you can get fulcrums for cross bikes. CRC and merlin good prices on wheels, also ribble and wiggle

Get a pair of hand built on mavic open sport or pro with xt hubs, or halo on hope hubs if you fancy splashing a bit more cash.

I have Hope Hoops with Mavic Open Pro rims on my CX bike, excellent wheels and vastly superior to the stock wheels it came with.

What benefits are you hoping for (for your wife) from narrower tyres? The research says it will basically just be more uncomfortable.

I was going to say something similar when I started reading this thread. I have done plenty of 100 mile rides on my hybrid with 35c tyres (THESE) pumped up to the max 65psi they really don't roll any worse than my 23c shod road bike.

Do you really intend going to the trouble and expense of changing wheels and tyres for just one event? I wouldn't even change tyres unless the tread pattern on her current tyres are unsuitable for the road. What tyres are on the bike at the moment?
