Having said that, it would probably be cheaper and certainly less hassle to get your LBS to pop a new spoke and nipple in than to post the wheel back.

True, but their is a point of principle  Plus if one has gone what are the rest like?

Is the fluffy white stuff on the nipple salty - in texture, not taste?
Earlier photos taken on phone didn't do things justice. Here's two better ones.

The wheels have never been used on gritted roads so no salt in there.

I assume the white is not clean aluminium? Usually they don't break like this. They show a graduation of aging of fresh aluminium. The crack starts at a point and grows cross to the other point. This one almost looks as if it broke off all at once and then corroded. Then again, the second photo seems to contradict what I see in the first.

What you see is bare metal in both photos. I took before and after photos (before was as was and after was after cleaning with an isopropyl alcohol wipe to remove anything such as salt or other deposits). There was no visible difference between the two images.

I did try that line and was basically told they didn't care. As I said their manner on the phone was that they simply didn't care. One thing for sure is I wont be buying from them again.

Well tell us who it is, so we don't suffer the same fate. Pretty please.

What sort of price range was the bike. Can't believe alloy nipples were used on normal bikes. They look alloy by the structure of the nipple. Brass are the way to go.

The wheels were bought separately. She bought the bike (Cannondale Synapse Disc) last November and used the stock wheels over winter then put these new ones on when they stopped salting the roads.

Though I'd give an update.

Spoke with the manufacturer today. They admitted that the seller had contacted them but they decided from the information supplier it was not a warranty claim. It became very clear during the conversation that the supplier had only given them a fraction of the facts.

They have asked for full details and photos of specific things and they'll review it. I noted during taking the photos that he head on the spoke nipple adjacent to the broken one looks to have been 'made wrong'.

Decent of the supplier, but your contract is with the retailer.
Totally agree but the seller / retailer is being @rsey about it and refuse to discuss it stating 'the manufacturer turned down the claim'.

Manufacturer, if they agree its warranty after reveiving all the data, wsay they will issue a returns number to the sleer and insist they fulfill their obligations.

They may still decide it's not warranty but at least the manufacturer is behaving in a much more responsible manner than the seller.

Manufacturer has got back to me this morning and giving a comprehensive answer as to why they believe the nipple failed which I concede is plausible.

They have however agreed to rebuild the wheel for us with brass nipples. We just need to pay carriage to them.

Certainly can't fault the manufacturer (Kinesis) in the way they have addressed the issue. Pity the seller was and @rse about it.

Anyone know the most cost effective way to ship a wheel?
