I am yet to be honked. Ever. I feel like I'm missing out, and on some days I'm pretty sure I deserve it for overly aggressive cutting through traffic. I need to curb my "got out of bed on the wrong side" behaviour

Thing is, when people beep you in the UK, it's not to warn you that they are there, but to express their displeasure with you being on the road. I fail to see how anyone can cycle regularly and this not happen to them. I did a twenty mile loop yesterday and I had two separate beeps and a "But you're on a f*&C&8g bike you ****! when I expressed the view that a dick in a tank should have given way to me in an appropriate place.

To be fair to the latter, the signage said "Give Way to Oncoming Vehicles" (traffic calming chicane). Am I a vehicle for this purpose? I would have thought so, but not to the rest of Essex it would seem.

Yes - I had that near Dagenham Heathway last month. Girl coming the other way paused so I kept going through. I think the male passenger told her to go as there was a 2 inch wide bike path covered in leaves to by-pass the chicane which he thought I should have used. Not on StreetView yet http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?q=dag...42964,0.153784&spn=0.000714,0.001695&t=k&z=19

I got beeped at last week, but I think that was a thank you one as I just held my hand up in appreciation of the driver who held back while I passed a series of traffic islands.

got ome today for having the gall to be insomeone's way when they went for their left hand turn while 10 feet from the curb, naturally all life must flee from his path as soon as he begins his manouvre

One of my younger colleagues refers to this behaviour as "horning", as in "The drivers were angry sat in the traffic jam, and a lot of them were horning all the time".

Thinking of it makes me chuckle a little when Mr. Toad does beep at me.
