Fimm, I don't think I was the first to have a camera, but I was part of the first group. We'd all chatted about it for a while on the C+ forums, i.e. how having a camera would be good from an evidential point of view.

The incident I remember that made me really want one was where a van overtook me and skimmed my arm as it passed. It really bugged me that I had no proof. Thus.....a star was born.....

I haven't had any particularly hairy moments - never been properly knocked off, and the only two proper altercations I've had were with 'professional' drivers and were dealt with satisfactorl... satisfactar... to my satisfaction.

If I could find one with the daytime quality of the Countour HD, but with low light sensitivity and with an external stereo mic in so I can use my binaurals or just use it as a camcorder, then I might be tempted to push my credit card a little further than I have already

It's certainly not bad quality - doesn't go all grainy like some cams, it's just you can't see very much.

Although I've more of an issue having a two-unit cabled device than the price. Prefer the all-in-one aspect of stuff like the Contour.

Unless I'm mistaken, I remember some of your earliest footage was with a normal camera (set to vid mode) gaffer taped to your handle bars? I seem to recall one of you bombing through a tunnel under the Clyde?

It is indeed. I used a nokia phone to video cycling through the Clyde Tunnel. It was strapped to my rucksack strap. I didn't use it when it rained of course!

The contour imo, low light issues aside, is one of the best wireless cams you can get. You could go down the Camsports HDS-720p route, a basic wireless bullet cam, but it lacks many of the Contour's features and is still around 200 quid. I know what you mean though, using cam and recorder on a wire can be a faff.

Ordered a Dogcam Bullet HD today. £100 and possibly not that great but small, rechargeable and not too expensive if I smash it up. I have been commuting 8 years an all the reaons have been covered already but evidence is probably the main one for me, though colleagues already tired of my commuter tales fear morning film shows. Not bought one sooner as, frankly, I was not aware of them.

I bought my headcam a few weeks ago. I've been commuting for about 8 months now and have wanted a helmet cam for about 6 months. I wasn't aware that you could buy cheaper cams (cheaper than £200) until a load of chatter started up after that cyclist was featured on the BBC news with a helmet cam.

I bought it to record the idiot driving I see every day and also to try and improve my cycling. Already I've noticed things I could have done better to avoid hairy situations. Shame I wasn't wearing it today when I was almost knocked of TWICE. And I only cycle 3 and a half miles..

Slighly off thread, but... I have a MuVi which I use on the bars. How do you attach it to an (expensive) helmet without ruining it?

Yeah theres loads of Muvi add-ons you can get. In some ways its a pretty coo little camera.
