I know the feeling , when I turn off and leave the town behind for the 1.5 mile hill up to my village .
It's a quiet road and seems so peaceful after crossing the town .

that last right turn from crown point to beulah hill, once I've got past that junction, it's a time trial home (about a mile), albeit with a very short 12% dig in the last couple of hundred metres. That's on the commute home from Chiswick. If I'm coming from town, it's when I uncross my eyes after doing College Hill.

I know it doesn't look much - but this is the final uphill bit on my route home (after about two miles of steeper uphill)- as soon as I see the brow of that hill I feel I'm home and dry.

Know it well....when I lived up that way I was glad I only had to do the first bit of Derbyshire Lane as far as Cliffefield Road

The first bit kills your legs so the rest of the long climb is a slow grind

Because I live up 8 flights of stairs I'm always carrying something back from the shops with the bike, usually with tired legs. I've taken to counting the flights as though they were an 8 hour night shift. At 3 am (5th flight) I start to think that I've broken the back of it but it's only when I clock off at ''6am'' that I can relax.

I never get the 'home' feeling on my commute until I actually set foot in the kitchen, take my bike helmet off and one of two things happen.

If I'm first one home, the cat - who's heard me come in - slinks downstairs from where it's been curled up on one of the beds, asking to be fed. Cupboard love it may be, but it still says 'home' to me.

And if I'm not first one home, usually there's the smell of cooking...

What a good question.

there is a distinct point on my ride home where I feel I've arrived, I turn off into my neighbourhood, I relax, I stop pedalling, sit up tall and breathe in the air as I try to coast the last 200 yards to my doorstep (through a very quiet cul-de-sac type road) without pedalling as its slightly down hill. as soon as I turn off from the road I feel like I'm home.

On the way in its much later, I only really feel like I'm here when I get the bike to a stop outside the front door of the office.

Have to admit....... I often dismount and walk up the first bit! Get back on at the Chinese Chippy!

At the point where I finally quit hacking through the traffic & turn off onto a cycle track that cuts through a local Nature Reserve for the final 2 miles to home - Nice... but VERY dark in the winter!

When I have finished the 0.5mile climb coming out of George Square in Glasgow, there is still about 2 miles to go at the this point but it always feels good to get the climb out of the way!

That's a bit of a beast. I find it hard enough walking up it, let alone considering riding it.

I'm always home when the bra is off and the jammies on and I'm often in a state of undress before the front door is even closed. I have no shame
