Question: When is the best time of year to buy a new bike?

Obviously 'Right now!' is one of the correct answers, but when are the best deals usually available?
Now?
Just before Christmas?
Just after Christmas/New Year?
Spring?

I'm up for buying (yet another) one before next summer but am in no great hurry.

That will depend on the type of bike, given different disciplines have their race seasons at different times of year.

There's usually deals to be had now as they want to shift current stock to make way for 2015 models.

This can work well if you just need an average size frame, but personally it never works for me as I need a big 'un, and it's always the biggest, (and smallest), that seem to go first, or that they simply don't stock in the first place.

Then there'll be the sales at Christmas to consider as well, decisions, decisions

I'd say if you see something you really fancy that's from this year then grab it while you can, but if you don't then just mooch around, sniff about in the sales and see what tickles your fancy.

I went into my LBS this week to purchase some back up lights, there was a stunning ladies Ridley on sale with £500 off, if only!
Other LBS usually has a sale in between Christmas and NEw Year, then around Easter. Good luck with your purchase.

Wait a few months and sales (And prices) will have crept up again. Once Christmas is over people start looking forward to the fast arriving spring season and maybe thinking about upgrades. Last year's bargain stock will have been bought up by the more savvy consumers and you can be shelling out as much as a £500 premium to get this years incarnation of the same bike, often exactly the same machine with a different colour scheme.

Indeed. I am not too worried about 2015 fever. Sometimes, to keep the price down I've found that they drop the spec a bit.

Food for thought all round.
