I am of the opinion that we are losing our outdoorsy/adventurous spirit.

TV is dominated by backstabbing/popularity contest shows and over-dramatised boring soaps which do nothing to challenge one's intellect or offer the remotest inkling of a challenge to inspire people to get out and do something memorable in their lives.

Have we become 'too safe' and cosetted in the cocoon of 'reality' tv and get-famous for nothing zzz-list celebrity obsession, that we have forgot that vicarious, superficial, two-dimansional thrills are nothing in comparison to 'real' life experience and thrills?

There must be somone out there like me, that craves adventure and excitement in the great outdoors, and feels under-represented by the media?

The Milk Tray Man wasn't real, you know...! In fact, I would say that the numbers of people doing outdoorsy things: climbing, cycling, extreme sports, etc. etc. has probably vastly increased since the 1970s. However there's been a kind of split between the very active and the relatively inactive. And there's certainly a vast number of specialist media outlets in print and on the web that deal with the whole variety of outdoors and 'adventurous' activity.

You're probably right, but I also think that the general move away from manual jobs to desk jobs has helped to accentuate the difference. There was probably always large amounts of the populus that did very little activity outside of their occupations, it's just easier to spot now.

Which fingers would they be? Cadbury's Fingers?

You are so right.

There are all the Three Peaks runners and LEJOG cyclists doing their best for their chosen charity, and all we hear on the media is "I'm a Celebrity" is coming back soon.
