1/magnatom has done and is doing a lot of splendid work to make roads safer.

Having seen a fair number of his videos, he is in danger of undoing all the good work he may be doing while off the bike. He needs to calm down while talking to others; people won't accept anything you're saying while you're screaming at them, even if you are right.

I'm not a fan.

2/ Some of his incidents weren't really noteworthy or deserving of his reaction

Agreed.

However, had it not been for the videos he wouldn't be doing all the good work off the bike now....

If he's set himself up as an ambassador for cyclists he has to behave accordingly and talk to motorists the way he does to the transport representatives of First Bus etc., I assume he doesn't rant at those meetings.

People who come across one of his shouting matches in the street with a motorist will not, rightly or wrongly, go away with a good impression of us.

However, had it not been for the videos he wouldn't be doing all the good work off the bike now....

Were it not for the adverse reactions to most of his videos he wouldn't have so much work to do!
When head cam footage gets a wide audience showing some of the dangerous and aggressive acts that us cyclists have to endure then that is a good thing and goes along way in changing drivers attitudes towards us. Unfortunately all this is undermined by the numerous videos showing relatively minor stuff that ends up with the cyclist ranting and balling like a spoilt bratt. And with magnatom, although there was some really important vids that the world needed to see, there was far too many of the latter.
The nail in the coffin for magnatoms videos with me was, the one where some woman pulls a face at him or makes some rude gesture, magnatom then chases her to the traffic lights where he tries to belittle her with his knowledge of road taxation - FFS that was as cringe worthy as it gets - if she had got out of her car and gave him a good hard slap round the side of the head I would have fallen off my seat with laughter.
Indeed.
It's called believing in your own publicity.

I'm not a particular fan of magnatom, but I do think you chaps are hating on him in an unkind and unpleasant way, and you're berating him for what is totally normal behaviour for cyclists.

I've seen loads of you people shouting at motorists for their mistakes, and I thought it was entirely normal and justified. Remember that video where someone pulled out in front of a cyclist on here, "causing my mate to exclaim" was the polite version.

It's not normal behaviour though.

We're all human.

I seem to remember gaz being a little hot-headed when he first started posting video clips.
Indeed, but nowhere as near as some others e.g.

Anyone that can keep their cool when they felt their life was in danger, I have respect for. It is a part of human nature to shout when your life is put in danger by others, controlling your self afterwards is the key.

Screaming and shouting at people is never going to make things better or change what just happened. A more calm and collected approach will get a better end result and make you come across as a better person.

And that is why I worked to change my attitude and thinking about approaching situations afterwards. First of all I think there is little need to talk to someone after an incident, it is rarely going to make things better and more likely to make things worse. Secondly I didn't like watching back my old videos and hearing my self, seeing as how I know I'm not like that in the 'real' world, it was disappointing to see.
