My grandson broke a bone in his hand and had an appointment at 8 am for an operation so my wife took him . At 4pm, he was sent home and told he may be contacted at 8pm tonight for the operation. So they both spent all day at the hospital for nothing and there is no certainty that he will be seen tonight either. Who says the NHS is so wonderful? Certainly not in North Wales!

Maybe emergency surgeries came in. It is annoying. I had the same with my clavicle surgery. Was nervous as fook about it anyway but got psyched up and went in, did paperwork and everything then they came and said it was cancelled. Hope he does get seen tonight.

Same thing happened when my daughter severed ligaments in her hand. We arrived for her op, but a number of emergencies came in, including a a 6 month old baby with severe burns, which put her operation back 13 hours. The NHS *is* wonderful, but a hospital can only have so many surgeons on duty at once.

Just be grateful your grandson's op can be postponed and isn't life or death.

It's not ideal, especially for a young one, but unfortunately it happens :hugs:
As Mo said, it's usually due to emergency surgeries. Be assured they don't put it off for just any reason - it could have been that a car accident victim came in who required immediate, life saving, surgery.
I hope your grandson is comfortable tonight and gets his operation ASAP.

Wales is my adopted country and love the place. I used to live in West Sussex in the 70's but the people in North Wales are kinder. As for hospital queues, a friend of mine was diagnosed with some cancer a week ago and she had the operation a few days later. Not bad is it?

now , do you see the contradiction, why dont you just say
i hate everything when it doesnt go the way i want it

May I add that my grandson is 22 years old by the way and has already waited 5 days for the operation.
While it's annoying (been there done that) I am sure both you, and he, would rather the person needing immediate surgery was treated.
It's not a perfect system, granted, but having worked for the NHS for almost 20 years, I still maintain it's one of the best in the world

Aside from the contents above there might be a wait to see the hand surgeon, being a sort of semi specialty

I love living in North Wales but the hospital in question has a reputation for long delays and bad service. Today just confirms it for me. My other thread was at a different hospital.
