Half way up Blue Bank, but I had already used my spare tube, no patches so I stuffed the tyre with grass to get back to the campsite. The rest of the climb was slow and hard.

Pilling Park housing estate in Norwich on a sunny and warm Friday evening. Hooded hoodlums on creaky (creepy) BMX's slowly circling getting closer and closer..

I ride through there, never had any problems. Couple of chavvy boy racers, that's all.

Me too normally but on this day there was a certain weird atmosphere, quite a few people around, got the distict impression I'd just stumbled into a build up or aftermath of a fight or something. It was half way along Newbegin Road, couple of years back now.

Problem families were housed there in a policy of containment, I went to Thorpe Hamlet School that was in the catchment area.

Back in 1986 my brother and i got in a bit of a spat one Monday morning, which ended up with a bit of fisticuffs. I ended up with a badly bruised forearm... but being a trooper, I went to work (YTS, apprentice fitter at the local bus garage). This is not a strange place to change a wheel or tyre... but I did try to remove a bus wheel with what turned out to be a broken arm.... and bus wheels are bloody heavy and taking its weight really fecking hurt!
