Jannie may be in for a late birthday present in the form of a Surly LHT.

I am trying to find a small friendly place in the UK to buy it from. I have used the dealers search option on the Surly site. A lot of those dealers don't even mention Surly.

If anyone has had experience of buying a Surly, I would appreciate some advice.

I bought mine at Sideways Cycles in Alsager (but frame only). Good advice, they fitted a headset for me for free, and let me hold my (then) current bike against the LHT to get a feel for the geometry when I was trying to decide between a 56cm frame and a 58cm frame.

I know Keep Pedalling in Manchester also stock Surly, and they're very nice people too (although I've never bought a bike from them).

Also in Manchester, Bicycle Doctor stock Surly - they have a good reputation locally, but I've never used them myself.

Might be worth trying to contact Brixton Cycles. Ex neighbour of mine bought a Surly Pacer from them a few years ago and they have a great reuptation for service.

I bought mine from Spa Cycles, although just frame and forks with a headset that they fitted for me. This was 5 years ago or so but the service was good.

I didn't visit the shop though, purely a telephone and online experience.

Keep Pedalling seem nice people, I've never bought from them though.

I like Bicycle Doctor a lot, friendly and chatty, happy to pass the time and offer advice knowing you're just looking around. I've had bikes, trailer and lots of bits from them over many years without a problem or need to go back in anger.

Mine was a custom build in Belfast, but I found a few places in Dublin that sold them either custom made, or factory standard. I know that's not helpful but the shops I found here, weren't even listed on the Surly website, so keep that in mind. It's ''ison-distribution'' that handles Surly's stuff over here, might worth checking their site for dealers.

I've bought from them a few times, but Carradice, Walz caps and Surly patches rather than bikes. They were kind enough to hold the latter for me until I could get in to the shop (as Surly were sending them in *very* limited quantities at the time).

Spa cycles in Harrogate are a stockists, I have heard mixed reports about them but I bought some spokes from them with no problems, they were quick and at a good price, they are a bit of a tourist specialist.
