Hi

I've been looking around on the internet for some time now but I can't seem to find a supplier stocking chainrings at a reasonable price. I have a tiagra crankset with worn out chainrings (52, 42, 30). Does anyone know where I can buy chainrings in these sizes, the cheapest i've found so far is around £31. Is this as cheap as it gets?

Cheers

Hi

Thanks for your replies.
I've just uploaded some photos of my chainrings/cassette (I struggled to get decent ones but hopefully they can show something). Although it looks grotty I am not so sure about the wear of the cassette. Looking at the chain rings however the biggest one is clearly well worn but could I get away with the other two (they do seem a bit rusted)? As I can buy individual chain rings from spa cycles maybe I could just replace some of the components. Or as I am buying a new chain etc. is it not worth thinking about - should I just renew everything to ensure nothing is damaged?

Photos: (The small chainring has been unfastened)

Thanks again

I just bought mine from Ribble. If your chain rings are worn then your cassette and chain will probably be as well.

I'm pretty sure that I've got an unused 30t inner chainring for a Truvativ chainset (same bcd as shimano). If I can find it then you can have it for nothing as I won't ever use it. PM me your address and I'll send it to you (assuming I find it)

Hope this might help!

Hi Graham, that would be ideal. I'd be more than willing to pay for postage etc.

I've pm'ed you

Thanks again everyone

I had a look, they seem more expensive than those at Spa Cycles so I might get them from Spa. I'm not sure what to do about the cassette though. The chainrings are 52, 42 and 30 and these are the original parts as I asked the owner on purchase. This means the front chainwheel difference in teeth is 22 and the rear is 17 therefore totalling 39T (I think this is how you do it?). The derailleur has a limit of 37T but as it shows in the shimano documentation it is fine up to at least 38T - even with the recommended combination of components that shimano suggests the total is 38T. However I don't understand how a total of 39T would work with the derailleur (or even 38T for that matter) unless I have calculated incorrectly. My question is can I buy a cassette with different numbers of teeth, and how rigid is the teeth limit of derailleurs?

Could I use this one for instance - http://www.chainreac...px?ModelID=1864 - with 13 to 26.. Would this require any adjustment or other new components?

I think from what i've seen it seems more expensive to get the whole crank considering cost of chainrings from Spa Cycles for instance
