The streets and bike stands are full of them - old 90's cheap and cheerful rigid MTBs. But where can one find one to buy? Very little cropping up on ebay (for more retro road bikes available in London it seems) and Gumtree appears to be full of dodgy theft-candidates.
I have of course created a wanted ad here, but sadly yet to ilicit a response.
Basically, I'm after an old rigid MTB to use as a theft-adverse knockabout - plan to strip all the extraenous bits like 'gears' and so on and run it single speed. Had a similar bike back in Nottingham that despite having a non-functional lock and generally not being locked to anything but itself anyway, didn't get nicked. Until I got very complacent, left it outdoors over christmas and it did get nicked - although I suspect my neighbours may have actually thrown it away thinking it was rubbish!
Are there places I should try looking other than ebay? Local paper? Auctions? Any shops in London that specialise in selling such old tat for cheap?
Thanks!
