I spent 5 weeks in Cambodia in 1998 and loved it. I traveled alone (but spent time with other people doing the same) It is a country of extreme beauty and horror all rolled into one. The roads were awful, the medical facilities outside Phnom Penh were appalling, there are hundreds of people with landmine injuries but the people are amazing. The local currency was so worthless that the market traders in Phnom Penh had to fill a suitcase with bundles of 500 Riel notes at cashing up time. We fired automatiic weapons at an outdoor shooting range about 20km out of Phnom Penh and were intermittently stopped from firing by the owner as aeroplanes on their way into Potchetong airport flew across the end of the range about 2 km away. A visit to Angkor (Siem Riep) is a must. Friends who have been since tell me the hotels, medical facilities and roads are much better now. The driving by british standards can be a little scary but compared to Vietnam which is truly terrifying its ok. Don't think about it do it, you wont regret it

Cycling in Vietnam is amazing, and as Russell said, also ruly terrifying, but not to worry about rules of the road, there aint none, everyman for himself, but these days it is well worth the visit.
