Got on the Canal, no ice anywhere

Got off at the City Of Manchester Stadium and was SHOCKED to see the roads and cycle lanes full of ice......talk about getting away with it
Its usually fine off road. Tempted with the TPT this morning. Looking like mtb tomoz though

There wasn't much in the way of ice where I was this morning but there were lots of frosty leaves on the floor on the sidestreets. Main routes were wet but safe enough... the fog was the main hazard.

Tyres are Bontrager racelite hardcase, I'd probably prefer a bit more tread but I'm not paying another £50 just for spare tyres... I just take it easy on the bends and corners.

Was fine on the way into work, caught out and spilled in the car park - luckily no one around to see!

My best ever fall was in the works carpark - and by the time I'd got up, brushed myself off, showered and changed the security team had taken a grab from the CCTV and emailed it to all of my team - around the world

I'm on the racelites too and they are a bit twitchy in the ice. I ordered myself two Michelin World Tours last week from CRC for £5.99 each, must get round to putting them on.

That's a very good deal, I might have to get some ordered. I don't mind getting winterised tyres if it's costing me less than say, £20, but some individual tyres are more than that.

I'm surprised by all the tales of ice from the fellow Manc lads, didn't notice any this morning tbh.
Know it was bloomin cold though,I wore some huge Regatta gloves that have been in my wardrobe for years and never taken out, hands were fine,if a little tricky to brake'change gear but at 5am I don't need to do a lot of stopping

Off tomorrow (funeral

Apparently, so I was told by the lady who'd fallen off ( ), it was fine at 6am but by 7:30am it was treacherous

no ice for me either, you only need a bit in shadow somewhere to spill you, maybe under something big and fast, not much ice in London and a week or two off at crimbo doens't hurt

Being on a permanent late shift now, 10am start, I'm going to miss all the tiptoeing around on icy roads early in the morning for the first time for years, just going to have to be a little careful coming home at quarter to seven in the evening, I'm sure I'm going to get some interesting rides home. I'm surprised that people have found the racelites twitchy, I rode them all through last winter and found them well behaved.

Tread will make zero difference. Zero. There is *no* solution. Ice + 2 wheels = nightmare, period.

2 people at work, both on MTB's came off just after the A34 yesterday, due to ice.

I'll be hitting the canal again today...the only down side is how FILTHY me and my bike is

Agree wholeheartedly. Everyone I know that's tried riding a normal bike on ice / in icy conditions for any length of time has fallen off at some point, whatever equipment they've had.

Except when you get studded tyres. There is a proper solution.

Put my Marathon Winters on last night in preparation for my first proper commute on ice this morning. Unfortunately, for supper I ate a three day old slice of corned beef, that looked and smelt ok but turns out it wasn't, so car this morning :headshake:.

The forecast indicates no ice after this morning for at least two weeks, so tonight I will have to change back to the M+'s.
