I would get a large remnant from a carpet shop. Cheaper than tiles and easy to lay and remove.
If for some reason you want to remove the carpet tiles you will have a sticky floor for ever. The glue is impossible to remove.

I would tile with underfloor heating installed first, which is what will happen with my next build, hopefully.

If the surface is dusty and loose you will need to lay a thin coat of latex screed which is self levelling.
You can stick just the perimeter and loose lay the rest as said if good quality. Make sure you buy tiles with a good thick backing, this will ensure they are dimensionally stable and won't get kicked up and dog eared. Buy some overage to allow for replacements. Use a permanently tacky glue from a carpet fitters supply shop where you can also buy the screed.
Some tiles have a top surface made from pigs hair which can be scrubbed with detergent.

Good luck.
