LOL, posh, they're made by sand dancers between South Shields & Jarrow on the Bede Industrial Estate

Just shows you the levels I had to stoop to, although at least they're not yet made by a ten year old earning 50p a day.

And you must be either a mackem or smogie with a comment like that. đŸ¤£

Ind Coope Burton Ale. 5.2% IIRC but went down easily and too much didn't give a hangover. Popular in the pub I worked and drank in (Cottage by the Brook, Stafford) in the 80s

If I found a time machine and had one journey, it would be to head back to a time and pub where Ind Coope Burton Ale was sold, foregoing the trip to the bookies to place a bet on a cup final I remembered.

Was never really into ales or proper beer as a yoof growing up. It was always lagers.

Now when I go to the pub which is seldom, I can't seem to buy a beer under 5.5% and a lot of beers at local are ridiculously strong flavoured, very hoppy, bitter craft ales.
Since cancer I don't want high alcohol content. Just a nice weak Pale Ale or a cask bitter at around 2.4% like I ignored most of my life. Seems like I really missed out.

BTW most alcohol free beers taste of pee, too fizzy and too much sugar that spike my blood glucose.

Green king IPA is around 3.4% as is Old Session Hen - morrisons are selling that at £1 a bottle. On the lager side Rosa Blanca mallorca lager is also 3.4% and very refreshing.

On the low/ no beers I've found Lucky saint to be decent drinking (lager and an IPA), Guinness 0% is as close to the real thing as you get but obviously a stout!

Agree Guinness 0% very good.

Another range worth looking for is Drop Bear. They do four 0.5, a lager, a pale ale, an IPA and a stout. Not too sweet and GF as well if that’s important. Asda, Tesco in Wales (apparently) Ocado or direct from the brewery, which is how I buy it

When i worked up in Northumberland many yrs ago I got a taste for Drybroughs Heavy and I've we drank them dry we switched to Drybroughs scotch bitter. The heavy was an easy drink and I never seemed to suffer any side effects after over indulgence. Lived near to beer town aka Burton on Trent and locally we had and still have Bass and Pedigree bitters which if kept properly are a nice drink, sadly some places can't keep them so it ends up being a very expensive laxative. My local spoons is ok midweek when the idiots are out of the way. Mine does a good selection of guest betters so not to bad, just a little soulless at times, prefer my local freehouse with a nice atmosphere complete with Sky / pool table / darts / domino's etc and more importantly a good steady clientele. Something i definitely don't miss is the smell of the hops over beer town. Remember it well as the place was rammed with breweries, now down to 2 main stream and a few niche ones.

Did the Edinburgh Half Marathon yesterday and there was a small aid station on the course that had cans of Guinness Zero. I was sorely tempted but was hanging on and might not have got going again. The beer tent at the finish was Bellfield Brewery who brew exclusively gluten free beers.
