I'm looking for an entry level bike for myself with a budget of around £400. I've found a new Raleigh Airlite 100 for £375 and a Jamis Satellite Sport for £450. I'll be using the bike for commuting and general recreation in London.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance.

Here are the bikes with specs:

How about a 3 speed hub geared machine like the Charge Plug 3?

Good sized tyres for potholed city streets, low maintenance gears make it very nippy in town traffic and can still perform on the open road.

It's kind of machine I ride all the time for both commuting and out of town rides, hills no problem - just pedal harder!

Hello Bainaj. Both bikes look good and you probably wouldn't be dissapointed with either. Personally I'd go for the Jamis, only because I prefer steel framed bikes. Specs look good on both. It's interesting to note that the Jamis is a couple of pounds lighter than the ali framed bike. The Jamis also has a triple chainset which may give you more flexability. People on here will also point you in the direction of a Triban 3 which is supposed to be good, also ali framed. Good luck and don't forget a helmet.
