Hi all,

So I'm back on the bike, my busted elbow just ain't getting better without riding..so I might as well ride.
I'm after a bike that will take conti winter contact 2 premium tyres, they're 37mm according to cont's site. Why them? Well we have them on both cars in winter and they really are fantastic. I've had schwable winter marathons and they were rubbish in actual snow - which we get a lot up here.

So I was originally thinking about a hewitt cheviot but after advice from tubbycyclist I'm a bit worried about the canti's and have had issues with canti's around here. I agree with tubby in that discs are the way to go, so I looked at disc equipped cx bikes, but they don't seem able to take 37mm tyres.

Now I'm thinking a giant 29er full suss with lockout suspension. Anybody use one for commuting? Could be upto 42 miles per day depending on where I'm working on a day to day basis whilst I do my masters.

The twice weekly commute to uni will take me down the ncn6 which is rough in places, but I have done it fixed and on the Brompton but both are not really suitable.

I'm also thinking that the full sussed will be kinder to my duff elbow...

Any other ideas guys or is the 29er a sensible move.

How about a Rose trekking bike?

I have the ebike version, but the bike itself is very comfy on 29" wheels and 50mm Marathon Supreme tyres.

The 29" wheels roll a treat, I find myself freewheeling into the back of other hybrid/mtb riders on declines.

Get a bike with Ergon grips and bit of boing in the fork and your elbow should be well looked after.

The Speedlifter - quick release adjustable handlebar stem - is a clever idea as it saves you messing around with riser stems if you want a more upright stance.

I'm chuffed with the quality of my Rose - it's been faultless and has that lovely, buttery smooth ride that only spending a few quid can bring.
