Sorry people, i guess you are always getting this question asked and yes i agree it is personal to a certain point. However I am going to explain and ask that question.....WHICH BIKE ?.

For some mad reason I have decided to do the London to Brighton bike ride for a local hospice charity next year, having not been on a bike for some years(15 or so) and now wanting to get back in to it i was shocked at the choice.....Did we just not use to do Kids, gents and ladies bikes ?.

Anyway as you know due to this being a bike forum / site the London to Brighton ride is road based, so you would think easy, road bike (racer in my days!) is my best option....Hold on though, where i live most people stick to cycle tracks (Red ways), these are made up of new tarmac paths, old roads, uneven pot hole tracks and so on, so many, many various surfaces.

So I started thinking that to get my money worth i need something I could use in various places, makes sense, so i have been looking at the following three cross bikes -

1) 2013 Giant TCX1- £1.099
2)Tricross Sport Disc - £1,000
3) Boardman CX - £949.99

Prior to this I was also looking at the following road bikes -

1) Allez Sport Road Bike
2) Secteur Sport Disc Compact.

Anyway, sorry for the long thread, am just really interested in opinions from those out there that will know what i am going through with all these choices, obviously all the cycle shops are saying all are good as they dont want to back stab other businesses but also want my money !. It's a big spend so your help will be appreciated, that really is it from me for now....Thank you for reading, have a great day !!.

i'm having similar thoughts - need a bike for road / town / lots of canals / mild off road tracks.
So instead of 3 I see a cyclocross steed as fit for purpose.
plenty around the £700 mark.
just need to soften the missus up .....:smooch:

Hope you get an immediate reply wherever else you ask

Or you might want to try the search button at the top right to search historic posts, as you rightly note, "you are always getting this question asked"

Go ride them and decide based on which feels best and which fits you best

The Boardman is very well regarded and if you join British Cycling for around £20-30, you can get 10% off everything at Hellfrauds
