What programmes do you watch and how much broadband do you use?
I have sky tv/phone/broadband package but i only have the free basic broadband as all i do is webbrowsing and i get eurosport for the cycling.

Unless you want the subscription TV channels why pay the extra for a 'package' which includes TV? Most of the subscription channels are available now online and often as pay per view.

Often the best deal is Mobile + Phone + Broadband all from the mobile provider. Add a freeview+ or freesat+ box and you have everything you get from a 'package' at a lower 12 month cost and much lower 24 month cost.

I agree, I have fibre optic BB and telephone together in package only because it was cheaper that way.

I used to have Sky TV but I cancelled it, I now what all my TV via the internet using either BBC iPlayer or the other channels equivalents or Netflix, I realized one day that I was paying £35 to record tv programs to watch later when I could just watch the same stuff after they had been on and pay nothing.

As I result of cancelling sky I have now found that I have more of a life and dont spend it sat in front of the tv watching endless repeats.

But I do spend more of it on here

I'm currently with BT for broadband and home phone, I have recently just renewed my mobile contract and stopped Sky some time ago although I would like a TV package due to my shift work. I was thinking virgin but not sure at all. I don't need sport or film more news and docu channels.

^^ If you don't want the sport or film why pay Virgin for something you can get without paying them?

Ok, obviously I have to up my skills on getting free telly programmes? Would I find on the net and then link to the telly if I upgrade my telly.....

Buy the bit of wire (HDMI or VGA + sound depending on computer and TV) to connect TV and computer and you have all of the BBCi, ITV player, and C4, C5 equivalents on your TV. OK unless you use the computer and watch TV at the same time. (Wireless mouse essential).

With the closure of Blockbuster we're now using the computer to TV connection more often for Blinkbox and Clubcard TV, which provide a paid and free version of movie hire and old TV series.

The only issue is that we only get 3Mb/s broadband which will only just support real-time TV viewing.

For general recording, if you want it, get a freewiew + or freesat + box. Less than the cost of a year's subscription to sky or virgin.

The BT package for example is their broadband plus a Humax freeview + box modified to provide BBCi, ITV player, and the C4 and C5 equivalents, plus access to a BT server for a couple of extras.

The various 'packages' now on offer are however well suited to anyone who's not confident with sorting out their own bits and pieces.

You need to look up what your local exchange is on samknows or such and then tell us what your options are. Only 55% of the population can get virgin on their proper net and it isn't done by a town by town basis.

Based on my past experience I'd keep away from TalkTalk. If your new abode is already on Virgin cable their phone + broadband deal is, according to friends in Bristol, good value.

I would be careful, you will have to check the post code with virgin. Samknows lists if it is available in the area. I would check what virgin say if it was a new contract, sadly the way of the world I believe new contracts are a very lengthy 18 months.

Virgin are only worth doing if you pay a particular price point. If you're willing to stump up a certain amount then you'll get triple play and may be happy with it. The essentials collection is 30Mb/2Mb broadband + M+ package + talk weekends. I think it is £40.99 a month. Although be careful, virgin are very greedy on metered costs these days as I posted only this morning in a different thread!
