I have a Merida,Scott and a Canyon, all carbon. For me the Merida edges it on frame and ride quality but i can't really give a black mark against any of them. The Scott is now 15 years old.
Easily the best upgrade were a set of carbon wheels set up tubeless.

When I was looking at getting a new bike. I found that Merida were rather over weight for the price compared to others in the same price range.

Yes im aware of that, its certainly lighter than my gravel bike though.

Why not get the best frame you can, and then use the following years C2W voucher to get a Di2 groupset?
I did that with my bike, bought an Scott Addict RC30 (In the exact colour I wanted) back in 2021, then a couple of years later used my voucher to buy a Di2 groupset, and sold the original one on.
You'll potentially save 40% on the groupset cost as well of course.

For those not aware, it's entirely legit to buy parts or even clothes on the C2W scheme now (It wasn't permitted originally), you just need to find a retailer who accepts your companies voucher, and who can source what you are after.

I have a 13 year old Scott, a CR1 SL, and though it is still in semi regular use, and I love it's characteristics, the development from then to the early 20s is significant.
Geometry, frame layup & design together with space for wider tyres & consequently lower pressures (I generally run 28s now, the CR1 was 25s at a push on the rear) have made a marked difference imho, and provide a vastly different feel and ride.
Just as engaging I would say, but significantly more comfortable.

I have a Scott Addict and just last year got a Merida Reacto 105 mechanical. Very different bikes and I love them both.

Just be aware, as mentioned earlier in the thread, that the Merida is an aero bike, and after riding my Scott endurance the Merida positioning took some getting used to. Great bike though.
