which chain

im in the market for a new cassette and to keep it simple itl b 8 spd (to keep it the same) and just to b safe im gona fit a new chain as well, there is a few ,,do i need to get one thats 8 spd specific or are they much the same ,,surely the chain doesnt know if its on a 8 or 10 spd sprocket ?:blush:

Chains are different widths. I think you need a 7 or 8 speed chain, 9 speed is thinner and 10 speed thinner again.

oh right ,,i only thought there was two thickness ,,i know my single speed is 1/8 ,,is the other 3/32?

Good decision to stick with 8sp cassette, Jim55; no real need for any more, and the narrower chains are progressively more expensive!
I'll go along with HlaB's advice on quicklinks too, but don't rule out others, as chaintools are easy enough to use and not too heavy to carry with you. Some multitools include them, but I prefer a separate one.
