Now if you want a proper horse racing drug, ginger is the stuff. In the heady days of the 1880s it was dried, powdered, and administered to the horse via a pea-shooter - the trick apparently is to lift the horse's tail with care, and to stand to one side while doing it. Oh, and you get someone different to do it next time, because horses often have a good memory for faces.
