Which endurance bike?

I have two friends who ride the Dolan. They both love the bike. It's 15 years since I owned a Dolan but I still have good memories of that bike. I think you're making a good choice.

I would chose the di2 and upgrade the wheels at a later date. Upgrading wheels is a simple affair while if you decided to upgrade to di2 in the future it would be very expensive compared to buying it as part of the spec.

Di2 is far from essential but it's a dream to ride and once you have it you'll never look back.

I love my Dolan. I went for the carbon tuono - quite simply the best carbon bike I have owned. Comfortable but very responsive and fast .
Sadly a heart attack last year means I am more comfortable on an e assist bike now. Can't bring myself to sell the Dolan though .

Forgive me, I've loads of questions.
Going to treat myself with an expensive(to me) & probably my final bike purchase.
I'm at an age where I want comfort firstly and speed secondly. I probably want a comfortable bike I can ride fast when I feel like it.

So criteria is, decent tyre width, mounts for mudguards, under 10kg, 105 mechanical preferred

Material: steel, carbon, titanium. (Not aluminium, every bike I've owned was ali)

Bikes I've browsed include the Defy, Roubaix, Domane and Synapse....all the usual.
Throw in Merida Scultura Endurance, Strael, Elan, Sonder Colibri.

Recently announced bikes are now in the mix: the new Cervelo Caledonia and the Bianchi Infinito.

One thing I don't understand it's the press fit Vs threaded bottom bracket debate.

Also, is a timber shed suitable for a modern steel bike? The Strael is hard to ignore.

Budget is 2800-3k tops.

I've already ruled a couple out from the list but I just wanted people opinions on what night be suitable.

For that criteria, I’d definitely keep the Strael and Colibri Ti in the shortlist. The Colibri gives you 32mm tyres, mudguard-friendly clearance and a BSA threaded BB, while the Strael is particularly interesting if you want a long-term “keeper.”
The Infinito is also worth a serious look if you’re happy with carbon and press-fit—the current 105 version is around your budget and takes 32mm tyres.
As for press-fit vs threaded, I wouldn’t let it decide the bike on its own. Threaded is simpler and generally easier to service, but a properly installed press-fit BB isn't something I'd automatically avoid.
And yes, a timber shed can be fine for a steel bike, provided it stays reasonably dry and you keep the bike clean, lubricated and protected from condensation.
