I seem to have bought a new Renault 4, wine red but decided against the £120 baguette holder. Edith Piaf and big smiles at the moment, let’s see how the relationship develops.

Oh excellent. My heart is set on the 5 but the 4 does look a bit more practical. Do let us know what you think of it. I've not seen any 4's on the road yet.

Will do. I really like the look of the R5 but thought I might have more chance of squeezing the bike in the R4. Still to check that out. It’s got a retro sort of vibe which appeals more to me than the more futuristic designs ( full disclosure I have a carradice saddlebag on the bike). I like the flat boot which is always handy when putting the wellies on. More when I’ve done more than 11 km!

Mine too, although I’m a bit worried by reports of various software and other issues that the R5 is suffering.

I saw my first R4 just last week. R5s are becoming quite common now. My main issue is what colour to choose - not all colours are offered in all variants and I think the car deserves a ‘bold’ colour.

The colour choice was tricky. The base price is for the red which is really a burgundy sort of colour. All the others are £650 more, even the black. The designers have definitely been involved so there are lots of options from denim seat covers to custom gear shifters. Needless to say we went for the more conservative end of the range. We did end up with the top of range iconic+ spec, more because it was immediately available and we couldn’t wait 12 weeks as our Ford was falling apart. We really wanted the mid range techno which did have some extras we would use. Still I look forward to entertaining the neighbours with Test Match Special pumped through the sound system!

Please do let us know how you get on once you've had a chance to try getting a bike in the back.
