One of the things to check carefully when considering a lease is how much excess miles cost, both absolute pence per mile and in comparison to paying for them upfront.
I have seen examples
- ranging from 4p + VAT per mile to 30p + VAT per mile on 'mainstream' cars.
- where paying for the mileage upfront is over 30% more expensive than paying for it as excess mileage afterwards.
- where paying for the mileage upfront is almost 15% cheaper than paying for it as excess mileage afterwards.
It is not unusual for the excess mileage to be negotiable. But you have to ask (and you should). They don't offer.
Remember though, if you lease the vehicle for 30k miles, but send it back with 25k miles on it, you don't get a refund.
