Why have you landed on Genesis?

Surely you start with the activities that you are likely to undertake on the bike. This leads you to the type of bike you need. Which in turn leads you to choose between that type of bike within different brands.

It's a bit like saying I want a BMW and shall I have the dinky little 2 seater, the chubby motorway basher or the big off-roader thingy? No sense at all to that.

Yes, but we often buy consumer goods like that don't we? Bikes are no exception. I often think that I would love to have a Colnago or a Condor. It just shows what a great job the makers have done to convince us that there's is the brand for you. braavivleis2003 has decided that Genesis is the make for him.

By the way CDF for me.

Go on, tilt your head!
How do you end up with such a disparate choice of bikes (gearing & frame material) at this late stage of the purchase process?

Because Genesis are awesome and there are just some things that you must have in your life. That's why I want one anyway.

Regarding the BMW comment, thats exactly how I purchased mine!! I wanted one and found the model that best fit my current requirements.

If we all followed your logic we would be driving the cycle equivalent of the Dacia Sandero lol

I'm not sure those three bikes are all that different to each other. They're all cx inspired, disc braked, guard and mount capable, with very similar geometry.

To add another one to the mix - now that the 2015 bikes are out, there might be some good deals on a 2014 Vapour, which is the predecessor to the CdA...

Yeah the Vapour is an awesome looking bike. My LBS has one but only in a 54 cm , I was thinking of purchasing that but being 6' 1" they thought it was too small for me. Not sure what you mean Spokey dokey with late stage of purchase process. Am I in the wrong section of the forum. I'm sure I chose " what bike" to put my posting, I will have to double check. Now it would be a different story if I was to have just gone and purchased any bike that would not be suited for my intended use. As has been mentioned all are cyclocross specific , yes with different frame materials gearing etc. I'm not the expert so was just looking for some advice from more experienced, knowledgable riders. I have looked at other makes and models. Genesis, I like the name, and the look of there bikes. At least I've decided on the make. Hope that's a good enough reason.

Another Genesis fan here, and making a similar decision at the moment. I'm torn between the Day One Alfine, CdF and Equlibrium disc, I like the hub gear option for simplicity, and the new Equlibrium disc for its carbon fork and cool paint job but the go-anywhere-ability of the Croix is tempting as I already have two road bikes.

If you fancy it I reckon you can build one yourself for less than an off the peg model, buy the frameset, a 105 groupset, wheels and finishing kit and you can do it under £1k (sell the 105 rim brakes and buy some cable callipers).

I was also looking for a Genesis, and I came across this thread myself because I quite fancy the Cda 20. I will be commuting, and doing some cross country style riding. The CDA looks awesome for this. It's got 42mm tyres too!!!
These guys seem to have a clear shot of it, and a free Genesis T-Shirt too!

Does anyone here know what the stainless steel croix de fer looks like for 2015?

image.jpg Maybe I should change the heading of my posting to which Single speed , Only a few more weeks till my purchase. Well to cut a long story short I have decided on which bike bike Im going to be getting. It's the Kona Paddy Wagon 2015 model. It's a beauty of a machine, racer style, takes up to 32 mm tyres, single speed as well as fixed. 42 front x 16 back. On order and I should have it by Friday. At first I saw the 2014 model in a mat black finish in one of the cycle shops but they didn't offer the cycle to work scheme. Halfords stock Konas but not the paddy wagon, at first was told by a sales person that they were unable to get it as I could only get what was on their website. None of which I wanted. I then phoned back again to speak to the manager. Not a problem he said, they can source most manufacturers which is good to know. Got a call from him to say, bad news, unable to get the 2014 model but can get me the 2015 model. I suppose it helped me with me making my decision as I was so unsure of which Genesis to get. They are fantastic looking bikes. But I'm really looking forward to riding my Kona.

and here is the 2015 model with plenty of close up shots

and the wife is getting me a Brooks B17 saddle for my Birthday. I reckon it'll go well with the Paddy Wagon.

Well knock me down with a feather. I thought it HAD to be a Genesis - something about the brand if I remember rightly?

Seriously - enjoy your new bike and stay safe.
