Hello all I'm a newbie to pedal power and after a wee bit of research I've decided on a hybrid my nearest local bike shop only stock giant and trek bikes( I like the trek 8.4 ds).
There's also a halfords store but I haven't checked them out yet.
I would be on road and dirt tracks nothing to off road I also considered a 29er but there's a fair bit of road in between me and real heavy tracks so I thought of the hybrid idea.
I'm doing it mostly for fitness and to lose a bit of the wee beer belly any advice would be great thanx.

I have just bought a Boardman Hybrid,i find it great on the road and tarmac cycle ways, but i couldnt see it wearing well on a dirt track, could be wrong ?
Only been back in the saddle a month, hope you get the advice your looking for.

Wot he said!

I've got a Boardman Hybrid Comp which I got for £400 new and its a nice bike to get back into/start cycling on (well it is for me!). I've got around 300 miles on mine and I really like it

If you can get the version with the carbon forks I'd stretch to that as at speed I find the front end vibes a bit harsh on poor road surfaces with my alloy ones. Its road based though so if you intend any harsh trails I'd look elsewhere.
