Back in the day my old Dad used to keep a bottle of Glasgow city water to top up his car battery. Softer water than ours Dad said and so soft it didn't need to be distilled for the battery.

But no real man drank the water in Glasgow. Just the hard stuff :okay:

Heavy water is Deuterated water, ( Deuterium rather than Hydrogen atoms), Hard water is water ( H2O ) with a lot of calcium ions dissolved in it, heavy hard water, is presumably Deuterated water, with a high concentration of dissolved Calcium ions in it. Confusing isn't it.

I know the op was about washing but I have decided to ignore that! I have gone for hard water mainly down to the whole beer thing.

Today reminded me of one of (my) life's small pleasures. The post brought me the citric acid I ordered. Time to de scale the kettle! Hooray!
It'll be small beer for some of the scientists here but I like all the fizzing and bubbling. It's like real cleaning but no real effort required!

This say more about me (nothing good) than it does the relative virtues of water. Better trout fishing in soft water on the other hand.
