Hello,

recently a friend of mine sold me hubs for QR and disc brakes with Campagnolo free hub made by Chosen.
Now I'm searching for a second hand road bike frame:
  • frame material aluminium (a "light" steel frame like the Genesis Equilibrium Disc is plan B, but in particular Genesis frames and bikes are very rare here in Germany, plan C is to purchase an older cyclocross frame)
  • quick release dropouts
  • disc brake sockets
  • for standard (round) seat posts with standard seat post clamps
  • road bike geometry
  • tyre clearance at least 30mm
  • not made by Bulls, Cannondale, Canyon, Carver, Felt, Lakes, Scott, Specialized or Trek (it's a personal thing, I just don't like these brands)
Do you have any recommendations what brand and model I should look for?

Tia,

E.

So you're going to build an entire bike around just a couple of hubs you've bought second hand? I hope they're a seriously good pair of hubs. What's the width of the front/back hubs? That'll be you're starting point - making sure the hubs will fit the frame. Being disk there's a chance they're 135mm but you'll need to check. Will you be building the wheels as a matter of interest? The Chosen hubs I've seen on the web don't look overly exciting.

Nearly all other parts are here already, collected over the decades.
So: No, I'm not going to build an entire bike around just a couple of hubs.

Front hubs are here with the usual 100mm and the rear hubs are the usual 135mm for disc brake hubs with QR in the last 20 years.
I've got a Ridley X-Bow (cyclocross bike) from 2013, which takes this combination. The bike manufacturers knew how build frames around theses standards. Therefore I think there should be road bike frames with the same axle standards.
Will you be building the wheels as a matter of interest?
Yes, of course.
The Chosen hubs I've seen on the web don't look overly exciting.
The Chosen hubs here make a similar impression as the Novatec hubs I have here or even a tad better. I see them in the quality range of Campagnolo Centaur or Shimano 105.

Ebay is your friend when looking for frames etc, as for what to buy/build just make sure its the right size and has tyre clearence for whatever width you prefer. Just take your time, build the wheels and avoid any looking online when tired or risk buying more parts or bikes a condition suffered by many on CycleChat.

Thanks - I'm already looking on ebay and other platforms.

The time frame for "quick release axles and disc brakes" on cyclocross bikes was only a few years - between 2013 and 2017, perhaps 2018.
I don't know when the road frames got wider tyre clearance than 25mm or 28mm. Seemingly the bike industry switched road bikes directly from "quick release axles and rim brakes" to "thru axles and disc brakes". The only exception I know is the Genesis Equilibrium Disc.
That's why I asked for recommendations for specific brands and models.
It's much easier to search for that than to narrow down the cumbersome search criteria on ebay or even more on other platforms (eg. the search on kleinanzeigen.de (biggest classified ads platform in Germany) can't exclude something 🤦‍♂️).

Probably it will end with plan C: purchase a cyclocross frame and live with the geometry. On the plus side is that it is less likely to bottom out with the pedals.

I was going to suggest an old CAADX like mine...

Would you consider buying a verboten brand and having it powder-coated to create a unique bike that you could brand as an Eckycycle?
