It doesn t work like that off road high spinning cadence and less torque = more grip. Hence my example. Crank length has as much to do with desired cadence as much as anything else, Making it a personal choice,as your quoted text explains, and unless you are going to extremes you wouldnt notice the difference in crank lengths as a novice.

I thought better of it.

I only build roadbikes.

My learning was firstly determine cranklength. Then measure thigh and lower leg lengths and from these determine the seat angle.
Then using the B/B height, leg length and crotch clearance, work out the seat tube length through trig'.

From other body dimensions - Height, Seated height, Sturnal notch and arm length, calc Reach.

Minor adjustments to Reach can be made with stem lengths.
