Which PC

My house laptop has died and I would like to replace it.

Our main use is for storing photos and internet surfing. We want something with a fair bit of memory and something that is fast and with a good size screen.

As you can tell I know nothing about computers.

The budget is about £500.

Any suggestions are welcome.

Best advice I can give is avoid Acer and Hp as both are renowned for having major issues that could result in loss of data.
I would also say stay away from ultra thin laptops as the cooling is not very efficient. Lenovo have a good track record as do Toshiba and sony viao

I have no real idea what your needs are, but a lot of people who have laptops it often occurs to me they may actually be quite suited getting an all in one?

We like a laptop as it comes on holiday when we take the car.

We have an HP laptop, this replaced the HP desktop which packed in after 7 years.
Mr M mostly uses it for and rates it as good enough.
I just use my iPad and the iPads always come on holiday as they are so portable and fast.

My recommendation is look at refurbished laptops with warranty as you will get much more for your money.

Places such as tier1online.com are brilliant - ordered plenty from there and the grade A laptops are excellent

My last desktop cost less than £70 but I also bought a brand new 2TB external hard drive to back stuff up on.....another £60 or so.

I'm a fan of Toshiba, I chose one for our works diagnostics system and it's been faultless for 4 years now.

Personally at home I do all my internet surfing/ emails and banking etc from my phone (Samsung s5), haven't used the family laptop in years..

Budget in for an SSD - makes a huge performance difference.

Consider a Chromebook for speed etc. and you can store photos etc on Googledrive (cloud based). Works for me, and you can access them from a smartphone as well.

Apple do an Oh So Cool white version. It's not cheap though.
