Which pedals?

I hope to be getting a Cannondale CAAD 105 compact (RED) next weekend and need some advice about which pedals to get.

I'm not worried about weight, neither do I want road pedals as I'd like to be able to walk around comfortably (hence me using MTB Shimano shoes).

I'm 6' 1" and weigh about 100 kg and am curious to know what kind of pedals the larger and heavier rider uses. Is the smaller pedal, such as the Shimano M540, likely to cause the 'hot-foot' pain/discomfort experienced by a lot of riders?

Any suggestions/advice appreciated!

Dayvo I went for the single sided Shimano A520's there a SPD touring pedal and IMO dont look out of place on a roadbike. The cage is supposed to help the larger riders foot and remove hot foot but I cant comment on that.

I use XT M770 SPD's on my MTB and Fixed - done 60 miles on the fixed without hot foot. If you hunt round, you should be able to get a set for £45 -£60 (I got both my sets for £45) -

For a cheaper option try the M520 pedals.

Dayvo, from what I've been reading, if you have a high instep it seems you are more susceptible to 'hot foot', so it's less about the pedals and more about the shoes. Need someone who's solved this to confirm that though.

Yes, I have a very high instep!

So if Marinyorks' right, then no M520s, which narrows the choice down a bit!

Hi.... I'm new to using clip-on pedals but also have a similar problem. I've managed to get a hold of some Crank Brothers Candy C's..... anyone have opinions on these? I'm mainly using these for commuting and looking at some Specialized MTB shoes to fit.

Thanks.....

Okay, I am going to be having the same problem, but slightly less advanced.

I will be getting a road bike soon, but I have never used any kind of pedal other than the normal flat type.

I hope to progress up to the more fancy types of pedals eventually, but are there any simple bog standard pedals you would recommend for the time being just to get me started??

Would sommat like this do??, or would I need something more specialised??:

They have to look the part also if this is possible.

Thanks.
