I have the Desire. It's a great choice, as long as you don't want just a phone. The battery life isn't great, and the inbuilt speakers are mediocre.

BUT it's an awesome mobile web browser, email client, MP3 player, PDA, GPS and toy. It also doubles up as a reasonable phone, but its really not its main feature.

tbh, it depends what you want it for.

The iPhone is a good phone but limited by the app store & apple approved apps.

The Desire (pretty much any Android phone) is excellent, not limited by the android market & syncs with gmail without having to do anything more than the username & password for the account.

A blackberry is good if you intend using it with Exchange.

Why not the iPhone 4?
It is a smashing phone and the issues with signal is just non existent.

From your list. HTC desire hands down.

HAHA are you serious? It's still the biggest app store and due to apple's nature, all the apps work on all the iPhones (although certain features may not work) unlike the android where some apps are created for certain phones and thus are a nightmare to use on others.

iPhone 4 is a bit out of my price range!

I think the problem with your poll is anyone with the HTC Desire will vote for it, similar with the iPhone etc. People do get a bit fanatical about this. I think age has an influence as well. I'm mid 50s and wanted the following from a phone, good sync with Outlook, easy use, large buttons (had a Blackberry for a week, useless because the buttons are tiny), web access, e-mail, good calendar and contacts. I also lusted after GPS to use on my bike. If you want these features on a simple to use phone then iPhone is for you - though the GPS is pointless on the bike as it only lasts 2-3 hours!!

I have found one or two useful apps but most seem pretty irrelevant to my life so I'm not sure all that type of stuff is very relevant. Of course this depends entirely on how electronic one's life is. It's been easy to load stuff on Facebook on the rare occassion I want to do this. The IP Board app for reading this board and another favourite of mine is great. The iPhone camera is OK for my limited ability and if I need to take good pictures I still find a real camera works well.

All in all the iPhone is a very good phone, quick, simple to use and has a nice feel about it. Battery life is not the big issue people make out. I use the iPod function about 2 hours per day, have Bluetooth on all the time, make all my business and personal calls, regularly update e-mail and read the web and I have yet to drain the battery to the point it creates a problem. I charge it when necessary and it hasn't been a big deal. I'm not evangelical about my phone the way some folk can be. The iPhone works, everytime, end of story.

I've never even seen the HTC Desire so I wouldn't join the comprison discussion.

The Galaxy S is getting great reviews, so I would put it at the same level of desire-ability as the HTC. (Did you see what I did there?

The Sony uses an earlier version of Android than the others and Sony are notoriously slow to update, so that puts it down a peg or two.

I suppose it depends on your budget, The I phone was my choice to replace my IPOD and current phone but after finding out it won't work in the car like the I Pod it's going to be a waste paying £120 for it plus a 2 year £30 a month contract.
