I have an Iphone 3g but is really winding me up
It locks, freezes, when I call the connection just hungs, the keypads stick, it really takes sometimes 2min just to make a phone call ll ! I know I have an older model and some friends with the same but also newer model (4) experience some of these symptoms.
I m starting to wonder whether I should ditch Apple and go for one of the rivals, BB or Android (Samsung / Htc)
Initially BB was marketed for business use and Android received some stick about the software.
What do you have and are you happy with the performance? Which way should I go?

PS Im looking to buy a PAYG , used one.

thanks

I have a Samsung Android phone, the I5700. It's been heavily modded with different kernels etc (if you are in to that kind of stuff!). It's great!

You could try the T-Mobile pulse mini http://www.t-mobile.co.uk/shop/android-smartphones/android-phones/pay-as-you-go/ it's only £30 so not much to loose.

What sort of budget are you looking at?

I have a Nokia 5800 Express Music and have no intentions of upgrading it until I wear it out.
+1. I managed to break the digitiser when I had it in my back pocket and sweated on it, but it is probably the best phone I've had. I borrowed an Iphone for a while and couldn't get on with it - always worried I was going to drop and break it!

My contract is up in three months and for most of this one I have ditched the God-awful N86 it came with and stuck my Sim in an old Samsung slide. I am heavily leaning towards an HTC Android but have no idea which. I like the Desire S but internet advice says that though very good it should really be dual-core at this end of a very fast changing market. It's a bit gobbledygook for me really but I'd like something that is at least cutting edge until Christmas!

I upgraded my SIM only contract to get a refurbished iPhone. After the novelty of Angry Birds wore off I went back to the Nokia and gave the iPhone to my daughter.

Im on PAYD with t-mobile, the calls and text rates aint so good but £20 buy 6 month of internet (500mb per month)
I have the HTC wildfire, as it was the cheapest HTC android phone at the time, I think they are about £100 now.

Its done all I have asked, although a bit slower than the higher end models.

If I were to buy again I might look at the motorola Defy as its a bit rufty toughty, ideal for cycling (although some have earpiece problems), or Phones for you have the Desire for £250 on PAYG, or desire S for £360-ish.

In our house there's an iPhone 4 (me) and I love it; daughter has an HTC Wildfire which is having a few issues with receiving texts & calls which may just be a dodgy SIM; hubby and son have HTC Desire HD which they like very much (although son managed to break the screen within 2 days, internal crack and no idea how it happened).

thanks all for your replies

@ rusky that's a good idea (to buy a cheapo phone) then I'll upgrade when I've got a better idea

@ TheBoyBilly there is now the Galaxy S II which has a 1.2 Ghz dual core processor

it really depends what you use your phone for, obviously if you are not into technology / gadget then you wont 'appreciate' the wonderful things that smartphones can do. I love my Iphone but I'm just disappointed on how is behaving or rather mis-behaving and lost trust, plus I'm sure it's going to give up the ghost any time.

I've got an excellent Sim only (30 days) contract so dont want to tie into any new contract.

The wife has the iphone 4...and absolutely adores it. She's into phones like i am with bikes (so i can't begrudge her) and has had so many, some for a good while (nokia E72) and some for a day (Sony Erikkson somatorother)
The iphone hasnt played up in 6 months...flawless. She says she cant ever see herself having a different phone.

That said, my SIL has the HTC Desire...and absolutely loves it.

iPhone 3g battery life is useless but maybe better on iPhone 4.
iPhone 5 due out in July so should be some really good deals on iPhones!

Blackberry Torch, heavy. clumsy, huge in your pocket and the slider will probably wear out. The touch screen isn't much good either. However for emailing, texting and BB Messenger it's a good business phone, especially when you're on an overseas trip.

It's so expensive, so heavy and I'm so afraid of damaging it that I went out and bought this Alcatel phone for £2.95. It weighs nothing and fits in a small plastic bag in a jersey pocket. I've programmed in a couple of cycling buddies and two ICE numbers. End of.

Good old fashioned choccy bar - Sony k800i. On the large side but as I wear it on a belot clip not too much of an issue. Battery lasts a week and the camera is as good as a dedicated digi-cam. If I want music my Sony MP3 weighs nowt and goes in my shirt pocket.

No wish to move over to 3g/Android/I-whatever anytime soon.
