Smart 1/2W is definately a light to get for £9. The dual 1/2W verion can be had for £14... depends on if you want brightness or runtime.

I use the single Smart 1/2W as I have the 3W Magicshine (818) which is mounted to the beam rack. Along with that I have an Electron Backupz mounted on the helmet (with it's white counter part on the front of the helmet too)

Do you have any idea what LED it actually has in it, and if it is indeed a "1/2W" LED - how do you compare it to your Smart?

I have a couple of the Backupz clones that Poundland had in for a very brief time - I bought 3 front and 3 rear, 1 of each were faulty, but still a good buy

I had mounted the 2 front ones on my drops, but with a 900 lumens rechargeable, a Cateye EL-530 and BLT Fantom on my bars PLUS a Canyon rechargeable mounted to the offside fork pannier mount, I think the 2 Backupz clones would be pretty much lost (and I wouldn't want to OVERDO the lighting ) - one of the rear ones sat on my seatpost below my poundland supplementary 5 LED light (yes I do like poundland!) but is obscured because I have a higher than normal rear rack (for 2 reasons, 1 it allows me to fit 2 smart lights on it and 2 it lifts the pannier up to stop it fouling my trailer arm when fitted)

So I'd been wondering what to do with the Backupz type lights. "problem" solved!

I have clones too, cost £1.50 a pair, they aren't as powerful and since I have the electron I might as well use them - if I didn't the cheapies would still be a perfect addition.

The cheap rears tend to be the same plastic casing, with only 1 button cell, but the spring is still suited for 2 button cells (front light), so you can 1) put some padding on the battery or 2) put 2 cells inside it and make them brighter


Helmet is brilliant for giving a bit more visibility behind crests, bush/fence levels around bends and the 2nd/3rd following cars...

ASDA are doing 2 lights (in a pack, 1 front, 1 rear), for £4. Front is bright enough to light up to 3ft on a country road, back is very bright too. Was very impressed so bought another set. Back mounts seem to be fine and hold the lights ok, front mounts will probably need extra securing (elast band etc), mine don't seem too secure.

I would say its about 75 % of the power of the proper superflash .I have compared them next to each other and you can tell the difference , they both have the lens for the LED but the clone is a little less powerful.
For around £2 compared to £10 ish for a real one they are very good and well worth having as a back up light, another plus is they have a proper switch that is more positive than the superflash and it still works when it gets sub zero as my superflash packs up every time its freezing.

I will have to do a video at some point but not today as i left the house at 5.45 am and got back at 7.15 pm due to work so i am semi comatose

Edit i like the look of the rear Magic shine but i find with the reflectives i have i get plenty of room , maybe due to mounting the lights on the panniers as well to give me a wider foot print.
