My old Shimano rear mech on my equally old tourer has finally worn out and needs replacing.
The rear freewheel is a six speed 32T-13T and the front chainwheels are
44T and 32T making a total of 31 Teeth of chain slack to be taken up.
I will be retaining the friction change levers and so have no need for indexed changing.
What rear mech is compatible with the 32T rear sprocket and will cope with a 31 Tooth range and friction levers? ;)

Most rear mechs will do , except possibly some short cage road mechs. Just about any MTB mech will work I think.

I would avoid 9 and 10 speed rear mechs as it may not be possible to set the limit screws to avoid the mech hitting the spokes, a 6 speed has a much shorter throw than a 9 or even worse a 10 speed. you best bet would be a MTB mech for a 7 speed.
