I started cycling about 18 months ago on an old hybrid as part of my rehab following an ACL reconstruction and totally loved it. I'm now at the stage where I'm starting to do longer rides mainly on roads over more challenging terrain(hills!!) so I'm considering buying a road bike. I'm also doing a mini triathlon in July. After some research i've narrowed it down to a giant defy 5, specialized allez or scott speedster. They all seem very similar in spec so does anyone recommend a particular one of these (or indeed another option!!?) Cheers in advance

Budget? You may well be able to get a better spec by shopping around for an older 2012/2013 model. 2014s will be mostly RRP albeit with some sweeteners potentially

Budget of £500. I'm close to getting a defy 5 from my LBS as I can put a deposit down and pay rest over 12 months

Might be worth looking at ashcycles site as they do have good deals on older models. Not sure if they do IFC

So do I  I saw a medium TCR1 Advance the other day for £1750 ish and they take CC . Was merlin cycles or something like that . The link was on here .
But to the OP . I ride my Defy 5 every day , its my workhorse and I have also got some very good times ( for a mamil ) on it . It can also take a pannier rack that I found an unsuspected bonus .
I cant think of a bad word to say about the bike .
