Just bought a new wheel ( with cassette gears for the MTB, to replace the old one with threaded gears, it has a qr on it any preferences for which side or don`t it matter? (Both on right side of my Carrera Crossfire) Moving from 6 speed 14 - 28, to 8 speed 12 - 32 with a 44, 32, 22, chainset I should now get up hills - I hope. I did a quick Google and found advice for both sides

The release should be on the left as you stand over the bike.

Given your Carrera is a rim braked bike, QR lever on the left side for both front and rear. With discs, often people have the front QR lever on the right side. Don't think it matters (but not right on the rear).

Sorry Carrera is Discs, mtb is an old Scott Adventure using newer running gear, and recently fitted Vbrakes

Oh well, wheel not fitted to mtb yet, and I have new tyres for the Carrera to go on tomorrow, so while wheel is out of the frame a quick swap. around. Probably my error when I changed the cassette, too keen and not checking. We learn by our mistakes and by asking for help.
Time for dinner, got to feed myself, wife gone to watch Arsenal!

Not really. Some pro mechanics put it on the RH side at the rear because it's slightly quicker to undo the QR and pull the rear mech out of the way in one go.

I imagine they file off the lawyer lips at the front, too.
