Which small XC Hardtail £600-1K

I had my mountain bike stolen on Friday morning from my garage. The insurance have said they will pay out and its going through now. So I've been offered £870 for a bike £400 for accessories because I had 2 bike packing bags on there stuffed with tools, decent pedals,sealskin gloves, maxxis tyres etc.
Bike needs to be 27.5 wheel, 1x if possible and an XC bike. Does anything leap out at you as being especially nice? Suggestions are welcome. Size is 15 or 16 so MTB small. £600-£1000ish?

Perhaps Decathlon if there's one close to you to try, failing that anything at Planet X that appeals to you? I'm thinking VFM as prices seem to be high nowadays v spec of what you actually get, but I do realise it's a mail order purchase, however if there's something similar to your old bike dimensions wise you could buy safe in the knowledge it will fit

Yes but not so much now unfortunately.
I think I will end up getting something at Pauls, Planet X they are all 29ers, Decathlon I wont ever buy a bike from again, so they are out. Evans I dont want to buy from because of Mike Ashley.

I think I’d go for the On One (Planet X) Huntsman, steel frame, 29er wheels if your ok with that?
At £749 it’s a bargain but you’ll have to be quick as there are only 2 left.
