My chimney sweep told me his mate bought a supersix evo to do Lands end to John Ogroats and loved it all except for the gear changes of the SRAM. I've only met my chimney sweep twice but he seems like the honest sort.

Is this him?

It's a known fact that chimney sweeps prefer Shimano. I wouldn't listen to him.

I'd take SRAM over Shimano anyday ;).
+1 me too I've done over 5000 miles on SRAM sets various. No issues at all. SRAM rival 22 rocks.,,and I can reach around the hoods to brake safely!! But ymmv so try both. SRAM equivalent is lighter though ;)

I am in the process of selling all my 105 stuff as I find SRAM works better for me. I've currently 10 sp Red on my cannondale evo and 10 sp Rival on the commuter. I know some people dislike the 'agricultural' changing mechanism of the SRAM levers, but I much prefer it!

Horses for courses!

Much prefer a solid thump letting you know you've moved gear. The fact that you only have to breathe on the shifter before it shifts, is also good.

And you can shift easily while braking etc
