I have received a lot of helpful advice and having been into my local bike shop I now have the dilemma of deciding which model to choose.

Looking for a bike suitable for fitness/leisure/comfort that will assist in getting me up the hills of the Yorkshire Dales.
I have tried both bikes, they are the same price so its now down to getting the opinion of experienced riders as to which would be the better option.

Madone keywords: light, aero, fast.
The Madone is best suited for riders looking for the lightest, most aerodynamic option and grand tour performance.
Domane keywords: powerful, stable, comfortable.
The Domane is best suited for riders looking for the most stable, comfortable endurance option for long rides over varying road conditions

Based on that and the colour I'd go Domane though looks like the Madone has a slightly better spec (bit more 105 gear compared to Tiagra).
Overall I'd still go Domane I think but it's going to be personal preference as much as anything between the 2.

Which did you prefer? That is easily the most important criterion.

I will persist with recommending the Domane, if only coz I think the Madone is a bit dull! Looks nicer in the flesh than the pics though, I admit that.

The main difference I noticed was the Domane seemed to be all Tiagra while the Madone had bits of 105. 105 is 1 up from Tiagra and the wires from the shifters are neater apparently. I ended up spending an extra £100 for a bike with 105 instead of Tiagra but not convinced I'd do that again now!

By the sounds of your proposed riding, the Domane is the way to go. I have one on my wish list, just waiting for the price to drop. Currently ride a 1.2, which whilst lower end and ally, has the same geometry as the Madone (H2 fit). Comfy enough for me up to 45 miles so far, but I seek the comfort that the Domane brings.
How long did you test ride them for, and did you try a rough/smooth route?

I purchased a Trek Domane 2 triple three months ago and I am very pleased with it so far finding it very comfortable after riding steel framed Dawes touring bike and a steel framed Giant mountain bike for the last few years.

Mines in the faster white/black colour scheme, its just a pity about the overweight old rider though!

I guess you want a triple, if so the gearing is the same on them both in terms of ratios. Like the look of the Domane, the Madone is a bit boring looking and you have the Isospeed decoupler on the Domane and more relaxed geometry. Go for that imo.

Yes I agree the graphics on the Madone are very plain ! Its good to see that most are favouring the Domane. There is currently an exceptional deal for this colour - Trek White/Starry Night Black/Fastback Orange !
