Yes and I had probs as I only have ten high gears after yet another chain breakage 2 days ago.

A bit rainy on the way in this morning, but happily, a tailwind... and it stopped about halfway there. Not much wind on the way home, a pleasant ride except for some woman who decides to pull out in front of me at a roundabout, and then *stops* ... I'd had a couple of beers and was feeling pretty mellow, so I just thought "meh" and rode around the back of her...

Well I tried but the semi melting snow with frozen sections meant I had to walk at least half of the journey. Nokian studded tyres going on this weekend.

I didn't because we've just been put on a three day week - with reduced wages, of course.

Mind you, we only ever get rain down here anyway.

I keep seeing people quoting studded tyres. I always thought studs were illegal in the UK, on cars at least. Can anyone confirm or deny this authoritatively?

Just started cycling to work in the last few weeks. This week has been traumatic. New bike just to commute - off twice on Monday on the same road. At least I went in opposite directions! A sports hybrid doesn't give you much leeway on an icy road - one minute vertical next horizontal and I hadn't fell off a bicycle in 25 years. Made some minor repairs and applied deep heat liberally to bruises.

Ventured out today as it was suppose to be warmer and hit black ice within 2 miles of starting. Practiced the horizontal riding position once more. Will now visit my local bike shop to get my 'hangers straightened' - at least thats what they said.

The only thing I can't figure is that if the same thing had happened whilst riding my motorcycle to work I would have less bruises - with all the protective pads I wear. No doubt that cyclists are tougher - have more respect for them now!

It must be really terrible down there with all that wind and rain and snow and ice. Doesn't the snow just stay on the mountaintops down south like it does in the north:?::headshake:

I do 7 days, yes I know it's hard to understand for the 9-5 M-F set, actually technically my next stint was supposed to be an 8 day days but generally they are 7.

BTW I cycled to work yesterday and it was the best commute of the week surprisingly.

Believe me, having spent 15 years self-employed I'm no 9-5er. And believe me, having a 40% wage reduction imposed on you is not a picnic.
