Who did I need to consider letting know when making my own cycle event?

I am planning on making my own cycle event and want it to be quite popular in my area, where people will pay to join me cross england going through the yorkshire dales from Middlesbrough to Blackpool. But I wouldnt know where to start with concerns on whom I need to inform that I am doing it with the other participants. I am also unsure of any legislation I need to follow as I would be partly liable for the safety of the other participants. I hope someone can help. Thanks.

@Samuelbakerr1 - welcome to CycleChat. ^_^

I expect you'll need liability insurance as a minimum but the rest will most likely depend on the scale and style of the event. Are we talking 10 or so people paying for a supported cross-country bike ride over a week or so, or 100's of riders trying to get from one side of the country to the other over a two-day weekend?

Will it take place once a year or more regularly? Do you plan to make it your full-time occupation or will it just be a part-time / casual thing? Does it include mechanical fix / pick-up? Accommodation? Guided tours at selected stops along the way? Food and drink cafe stops? etc.

If you could define it a bit more for us it might help us give you some more specific info and advice. :okay:

Cheers,
Shaun :biggrin:

Hi, I imagine when it starts getting more popular with more participants it becomes more costly so I wanted to start it off with around 20 people which will pay to take part and once a year. this is the brief I have wrote.
The MJ PAT Camp ‘n’ Ride is a 129 mile/207km bicycle ride from Middlesbrough to Blackpool, stopping at Richmond and Leyburn where we will camp at Aysgarth Falls Hotel. On the second day we will stop in Settle and Whitewell then continue to the finish in Blackpool.

A bus will be hired to take everyones camping gear and will be dropped off at Aysgarth Falls Hotel ready upon arrival for all participants. On the night we will carryout a BBQ for all the participants. People taking part can also go for a pint in the on site pub or take a stroll down to Falls and look at the picturesque scenery that the Dales has to offer.

The morning after the bus will be back to collect everyone’s gear, after having breakfast provided by Aysgarth Falls Hotel and before setting off for the day to of the MJ PAT Camp ‘n’ Ride.

On day two we will set off at 10.30am, stop at Settle after an estimated 3 hours of riding and then again at Whitewell after a further 2 hours of riding for food etc (Food establishments will be decided upon trial run) to then continue to finish in Blackpool after a further 2 ½ - 3 hours more riding where we should arrive for an estimated 9pm.

Of course this is very brief but this is just to give you an idea.
Thanks.
